Last weekend was a hair day in my household. I cut and dyed my son’s hair, my daughter dyed her hair, and I did a much-needed hair treatment for my hair. My house turned into a hair salon for the day.
After my son’s soccer tournament, of course they won, we decided to head over to Sally’s Beauty and pick up some things. His hair was getting out of control so I decided to get some clippers and do it myself. I’m a single momma, so anything that helps save me some money and time, I’m all in! I’ll do up a post with his awesome hair transformation in a little bit.
My daughter has amazing curly ringlet hair and I have a combo of curly and wavy hair.
My mom was a beautician back in the day so my hair was her canvas. Plus, as I was growing up, I was always switching up my hair. From hair cuts, hair colors, straighten it, hot curling, crimping, and then some! I mean, back in the day before hair flat irons, I was straightening my hair on an iron board with an iron! I was also that girl who used to spray Sun In in my hair to lighten it up. My hair is naturally dark brown, almost black so imagine how much Sun In I used to get it to a honey blonde. Throughout my 30+ years, I’ve done some HELLA damage to my locks.
The night before my son’s soccer tournament, I saw a review on ApHogee 2 Step Hair Protein Treatment, then I got obsessed and read and viewed YouTube reviews for about a few hours. I knew from all the reviews that I had to go out and get it!
I’ll tell you how I used it then I’ll post what the ApHogee says to use it.
I bought two of the ApHogee 2 step protein treatment individual packet duo from Sally’s Beauty store for $3.99. I bought two because of my super long hair.
I went home and washed my hair with my regular shampoo and towel dried it, but kept it a little moist. Then I applied the protein treatment. I was a little scared on this part because it says to NOT disturb your hair, as in crunching it. With curly hair, it’s an automatic for me to crunch it up.
To apply the protein treatment, I put the protein solution in a spray bottle and then sectioned my hair into 4 parts. Be forewarned…this solution STINKS! Like, seriously STINKS!
I sprayed one section at a time and used a wide-comb to comb out my hair and evenly distributed the protein solution. After all my hair was soaked in the solution, I got my blow dryer and set it to medium heat. This is the part where you DO NOT crunch your hair! While I was blow drying my hair, it was getting super stiff and sticky! I mean, straw-like stiff. I knew at that point why they said NOT to crunch or disturb your hair. If you do, you can literally break your strands. Which is the opposite of what you’re trying to accomplish. I wanted to get my hair back to a state where it would STOP the breakage. Anyways…
After my hair was completely dry, I went back into the shower and washed it out carefully and added the second step of the treatment. The second step of the treatment is the Balancing Moisturizer, which smells a hell of a lot better than the first step.
I left in the balancing moisturizer for about 5 minutes. The package says 2 minutes, but I have a hell of a lot of hair and wanted to make sure that it was completely moisturized. If you could have felt my hair after I dried it with the protein treatment in, you wouldn’t blame me.
As I was washing the balancing moisturizer, my hair felt amazingly soft and untangled. The complete opposite of what it was just a few minutes earlier.
After my shower, I just let my hair air dry. Somehow, the treatment made my hair air dry in half the time. Once my hair was dry, I flat ironed it. My hair felt and looked so healthy!
The following pictures are from the morning after, so excuse my “I just woke up like this look”, pjs and frizziness. I’m in Florida so the humidity is ridiculous!
It’s been a full week since I’ve used the treatment and I’ve noticed that I’m not putting chunks of my hair on the shower wall while I’m taking my showers. That right there is proof that it really works!
I don’t know why I haven’t heard of protein treatments for my hair until now. I HIGHLY recommend this if you have damaged hair. It’s affordable and easy to apply and you can do it in the comfort of your own home. I will continue to use this treatment whenever my hair needs it.
Now, here is what the ApHogee website says about the 2 step treatment and how to use it.
From the ApHogee website:
ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment is a salon service product unlike any product available for at-home use. This unique treatment is formulated with magnesium and modified proteins which fuse into the hair with the application of heat. The result is that breakage is drastically reduced. During the process, ApHogee treatment hardens into the hair, dramatic evidence that something special is occurring. For best results a hooded dryer is required. After rinsing and moisturizing with ApHogee Balancing Moisturizer, clients are astounded with the results. ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment can help improve other salon services as well. This remedial process is highly recommended for hair that:
- Is too weak or fine to take a perm or relaxer. (use the week PRIOR to service)
- Is over-bleached.
- Will not hold color. (use PRIOR to color application)
- Breaks when combed or brushed.
- Is mushy when wet and brittle after drying.
Made in the USA
CAUTION: FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY
Restores even seriously damaged hair to normal healthy condition, when used as directed.
Shake well before use! Keep out of eyes. If product gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water. (The pH of ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment is about that of lemon juice and it will cause similar eye irritation).
- Gently cleanse hair with ApHogee Shampoo for Damaged Hair. Rinse thoroughly and towel blot dry.
- Apply enough ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment to thoroughly saturate hair and comb blend for even distribution.
- Leave hair uncovered, DO NOT use a plastic cap. Seat client under medium heat dryer. (Alternatively, a hand dryer may be used, but hair SHOULD NOT be agitated while drying.) NOTE: When ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment is dried into the hair, the hair becomes extremely hard. DO NOT comb or brush hair while ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment is dried and in the hair.
- Re-wet and gently rinse thoroughly with warm water. Repeat
Apply ApHogee Balancing Moisturizer to hair and scalp. Leave in for 2 mins., then rinse thoroughly.
- Proceed to next service or style as usual.
I absolutely love this treatment!
