My Accutane Journey Week 1
My initial 30 days waiting to start Accutane has finally passed and I started my 1st week of treatment! Woowho!
Before my appointment at my dermatologist, I had to get yet another pregnancy test and more blood work to make sure I was in the clear. If you’re a female, you will have to get a pregnancy test each month before starting a new pack of treatment. This is for the safety of an unborn child. Accutane can cause serious damage to a fetus. That’s why you have to ensure NOT getting pregnant while taking this medication. You have to use two forms of birth control throughout your treatment plan.
I just started dating a new guy and have two kids already, so getting pregnant any time soon is definitely not in my plans. Plus my man is deployed at the moment so, no problems there.
At my appointment, the doctor did another skin look exam and then went through the side effects again. Which you can read HERE.
I had to log into the iPLEDGE system, which you will have to do each month at your appointment before your dermatologist will enter your new prescription. You literally have to take a quiz. LOL. It’s that serious, but I do not mind at all!
After that, you get your prescription, you have no more than 7 days to pick your prescription up at the pharmacy. If you are a day late, guess what?? You have to start the whole process over again! Don’t nobody have time for that!
Luckily, I work at the pharmacy! So, there would be no problem for me to have it filled and picked up the 1st day!
My experience so far
Day 1: Nothing out of the normal
Day 2: Again, nothing out of the normal
Day 3: I’m feeling lucky so far. My face is less oily and my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is feeling a little different.
Day 4: Woke up to my right eye being dry. Just my right eye though.
Day 5: Woke up with my right eye dry again and a little dull pressure behind middle way down my nose.
Day 6: Same as Day 5 plus a few dry skin patches on my left upper arm.
Day 7: Same as Day 5 & 7 to include my lips starting to get a little dry.
All in all, a good 1st week with no new breakouts.
Goodies I picked up before starting my 1st pack of treatment
The side effects being that your lips will get super dry and skin may get super dry and eczema may flare, I went and picked up some:
- eos lip balms
- Body lotion
- Equitance Dark Spot & Brighten serum (for acne scars)
- Ambi Dark Spot lightening cream (for acne scars)
After I shower, I slather on my body lotion EVERY WHERE! I don’t want to chance it.
I decided late in the game that I will take a daily picture so at the end of my Accutane Journey, I will post the pictures as a progression video.
Starting next week, I will post a weekly progression pictorial.
Wish me luck Dolls!
Until next time
