My blog is about my experiences, mostly with beauty and fashion, so “May’s Life” sounded appropriate. I wanted to capture that in a beautiful and elegant way, so of course I translated it to French. Technically, the literal translation is “La Vie de May”, but I didn’t like how it sounded, so I switched it to “La Vie en May.” It’s also a play on the movie “La Vie en Rose.”
When did you start blogging & Why did you start?
I started blogging around 2 years ago, but I didn’t really keep up with it consistently and it was mostly random musings. Last year, I really wanted to give my blog a direction and I chose beauty and fashion since that’s what I’m most passionate about. Blogging is a huge way for me to share who I am with the world and learn from others as well. I’ve made some great friends along the way.
What is your favorite part of being a blogger?
Everything! Mostly that I get to work on my own time. Every word written on my blog is my own and it truly reflects me and who I am. I also really like working with brands/companies. It’s nice to be the first one to sample products, but the best part is supporting these small businesses and helping them increase their reach and audience.
What keeps you inspired to blog?
My readers! I love hearing what they have to say, the good and the bad. They motivate me to be more creative!
My HOLY GRAIL beauty product definitely has to be Revolution lipsticks from Urban Decay. I am all about the red lips and the revolution lipstick gives me the bold color with a moisturizing formula. Exactly what I need to feel confident and sexy!
Is there a beauty product that you’ve tried and will never try again? Why?
Yes, I’ve had a couple of those. My most recent one is the L’Oreal Infallible Le Gloss. The color was nice, but the smell was bad and the formula was very dry. Needless to say, after this winter, I need something a little bit more moisturizing.
If you could go back in time to 5 years ago, what beauty tip would you give yourself?
I would tell myself to build a routine. I was really bad. I never used to wash my face every day or clean off my makeup the night before out of laziness. I used to switch between a lot of products as well. It all had such a bad effect on my skin. I’ve learned to build a routine and to stick with a few key products. Thankfully, it’s worked and my skin is looking beautiful again!
What piece of advice would you give to new inspiring beauty bloggers?
Do what you love. Don’t worry about followers or no one noticing your blog. If you love beauty, it will show through your writing and your followers will come naturally. Don’t get discouraged, and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
